The CDGA’s Turfgrass Program has the ability to research more than 200 varieties of turfgrass on the Sunshine Course, located adjacent to the Midwest Golf House. This opportunity provides the CDGA a valuable site for research opportunities in addition to the course serving those with disabilities to enjoy and discover the game of golf. Since 2003, multiple grant-in-aid funded projects were conducted each year evaluating products and strategies needed for highly maintained turfgrass.In 2008 the CDGA Turfgrass Program began collaboration on a bentgrass variety trial of fairway and putting green management along with 10 universities in the Midwest.
In 2009 the CDGA Turfgrass Team hosted the inauguaral iTurfExpo. This research field day from the Illinois Turfgrass Foundation (ITF) featured a new 2-day format for golf, sports, and lawn turf. The following are off-site studies the turfgrass team conducted at CDGA member clubs in 2009:
