Chadd Slutzky defeated Brian Hickey 3 and 2 to win the 3rd CDGA Mid-Amateur Championship

SLUTZKY EARNS MID-AM DOUBLE WITH CDGA MID-AMATEUR TRIUMPH
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. Beginning with a 2-under 70 in stroke play qualifying, the only red number in the field, and ending with a 3-and-2 championship match victory in which he never trailed, Chadd Slutzky was a cut above the 3rd CDGA Mid-Amateur Championship field. The Deer Park native clinched the title with a win over Brian Hickey in the championship match Wednesday morning at Mistwood Golf Club.
Slutzky, the 2015 Illinois State Mid-Amateur winner, continued his impressive form from the weekend before the CDGA Mid-Am, when he won the I-80 Amateur at The Sanctuary Golf Course with a final-round 66.
The swing's been working, Slutzky said. I came out here Monday for the stroke play and it continued. I'm just feeling good with my swing, everything is working.

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- Medalist Chadd Slutzky (Grove CC) took a few holes to find his groove, but once he did, cruised to a 4-and-3 semifinal victory over Peter Flory (Glencoe GC). After falling behind early, Slutzky squared the match back up at the fifth hole, before opening a 2-up lead at the turn. From there, Slutzky expanded the gap, ultimately clinching victory in the 15th fairway, taking the match 4 and 3.
In the second semifinal, Brian Hickey (Edgewood Valley CC) led by as much as 3 up, but second-seed Mark Esposito (Blackberry Oaks GC) clawed his way back on the final nine to force extra holes, before ultimately succumbing to Hickey in 19 holes.
Slutzky, the 2015 Illinois State Mid-Amateur champ, will look to become the third straight former State Mid-Am titlist to take the CDGA Mid-Amateur when he faces off against Hickey in the 18-hole final match Wednesday at 8 a.m. at Mistwood Golf Club.

Medalist Chadd Slutzky (Grove CC) birdied the 21st hole of his match against Steve Sawtell (The Glen Club) to advance to the CDGA Mid-Amateur semifinals Tuesday at Mistwood Golf Club. Slutzky, the 2015 Illinois State Mid-Amateur winner, birdied the par-5 third hole to get past two-time CDGA Amateur champion Sawtell.
Slutzky will take on Peter Flory (Glencoe GC) in the semifinals, who knocked off Mike Henry (Weibring GC of ISU), 1 up. On the other half of the bracket, two-time Illinois State Mid-Amateur champion Mark Esposito (Blackberry Oaks GC) advanced with a 5-and-3 win against Michael Peters (Glencoe GC). Esposito will face Brian Hickey (Edgewood Valley CC), who beat Paul Dagys (Mistwood GC), 2 up.
The semifinals will begin at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - CDGA Mid-Amateur Medalist Chadd Slutzky (Grove CC) advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-and-1 victory over Paul White (Glen Oak CC) in the Round of 16 Monday at Mistwood Golf Club, a match in which he rallied from 3 down by winning five of the final nine holes. Slutzky, the 2015 Illinois State Mid-Amateur champion, will face off against two-time CDGA Amateur winner Steve Sawtell (The Glen Club), who bested K.C. Matkaitis (Calumet CC), 1 up, in his match.
Two-time Illinois State Mid-Amateur champ Mark Esposito (Blackberry Oaks GC) worked overtime, holding off 15th-seed Michael Natale (Cog Hill G&CC), to win in 21 holes. Esposito will face off against 10th-seed Michael Peters (Glencoe GC), who topped Tim Sheppard (Lick Creek GC) 3 and 1 in the Round of 16.
The quarterfinals of the CDGA Mid-Amateur Championship tee off at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning at Mistwood Golf Club.

Chadd Slutzky (Grove CC) posted the only red number in the stroke play portion of the 3rd CDGA Mid-Amateur Championship Monday morning at Mistwood Golf Club. The Deer Park native and 2015 Illinois State Mid-Amateur champion carded five birdies, including his final two holes, en route to a 2-under 70 and medalist honors.
Slutzky's first round opponent in match play will be Paul White (Glen Oak CC), who was one of three to survive a four-golfer playoff at 4-over 76. Matt Considine (Haborside International GC) and Michael Natale (Cog Hill G&CC) also advanced to match play through the playoff.
Two-time Illinois State Mid-Amateur winner Mark Esposito (Blackberry Oaks GC) will face Natale in the first round after earning the No. 2 seed with a 1-over 73. Two-time CDGA Amateur champion Steve Sawtell (The Glen Club) tallied a 3-over 75 to earn the No. 9 seed and a match against K.C. Matkaitis (Calumet CC).
The first round of match play will take place Monday afternoon. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be contested Tuesday, with the championship match teeing off Wednesday morning.
LEMONT, Ill. - The CDGA's newest individual championship visits a recently remade public gem when the 3rd CDGA Mid-Amateur heads to Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville, May 22-24. The event pits the District's top golfers ages 25 and older in 18 holes of stroke play qualifying followed by the low 16 advancing to a match play bracket.
The CDGA Mid-Amateur Championship debuted its current format in 2015. Open to any CDGA member age 25 or older, the CDGA Mid-Am features an 18-hole stroke play round to determine a 16-player match play bracket. From 2003-14, the event was contested as a flighted gross/net championship. Glenview's Kyle Nathan emerged victorious in last year's event contested at Lake Shore Country Club.
