CHAMPAIGN, Ill – The 56th Illinois State Senior Women’s Amateur was contested in downstate Illinois at Champaign Country Club with over 70 golfers vying for top honors. Hui Chong Dofflemyer (Belvidere) produced three straight days of consistent golf to claim her first State Senior title Wednesday afternoon.

Dofflemyer’s stellar championship started with a round of 4-over 76, pacing her three shots behind the leader after day one. Her steady play continued Tuesday morning as Dofflemyer carded three birdies on the day en route to 3-over 75, resulting in a seven-stroke advantage heading into the final round over three-time champion Mary Ellen Martin (Winfield).

”I just kept telling myself to play my game and focus on one shot at a time but that can be hard when you have a lead,” said Dofflemyer of maintaining her game. “I tried to make par and move on.”

Dofflemyer withstood late surges from Martin and 2024 champion Deanne Stolarik (Zion) but her exceptional putting down the stretch helped clinch her first State Senior title.

“I was able to read the greens well here but they were very difficult. I didn’t have many three putts this week compared to the field and I think that helped me out quite a bit.”

The victory for Dofflemyer emerged during a season in which she has not played as much golf as usual. A knee injury has limited her competitive rounds in 2025 which makes the win that much sweeter.

”I wasn’t even expecting to play that well here just with my injuries. It’s been hard to play my full game with what has been going on. This was probably the first week where I have been able to hit my driver well,” admitted Dofflemyer of her game. “There are so many good players here so it feels great.”

Awards were presented to the top three low gross and net finishers in each of the four flights. Diane Bettenhausen (Saint Anne) was crowned the overall net champion with a net score of 2-under.
