Przybylski and Seelinger began their day with a Quarterfinal match-up against
Craig Sopko (Lake Forest / Exmoor CC) and
Edward Mular (Schaumburg / Prairie Isle GC), the event’s No. 3 seed. Four-consecutive pars for both sides got the match off and running before a back-and-forth battle gave either side a couple of 1-up advantages through the turn. After squandering a slight lead for the second time, the Przybylski/Seelinger team caught fire by birdieing Nos. 11, 13, 14 and 15 to earn a commanding 4-and-3 win.
Awaiting the defending champions was the duo of
Bob Schachner (Libertyville / Ivanhoe Club) and
David Passaglia (Kildeer / Ivanhoe Club) following their 1-up Quarterfinal victory. Przybylski and Seelinger lost just one hole in the afternoon match, by way of a bogey at the par-5 10th, to earn their second 4-and-3 triumph in as many matches. The win moved the Przybylski/Seelinger duo to 7-0 in CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball play following their event debut last year.
Meanwhile, McGuire and Guin faced off with the 2022 event runner-up team of
Steven Jacobs (Highland Park / Pine Meadow GC) and
Matthew Horwitch (Northbrook / Merit Club) in the morning’s Quarterfinal round. A Jacobs/Horwitch birdie at the par-4 second handed McGuire and Guin their first deficit of the week. The eventual winners responded with a birdie of their own at the par-3 sixth to level the match before the two split wins again at Nos. 8 and 11 to keep the match tied coming down the home stretch. Back-to-back birdies at Nos. 14 and 15 proved to be too much for Jacobs and Horwitch, as McGuire/Guin captured the win, 2 and 1.
John Wright (Oswego / Oak Brook GC) and
John Finnin (Frankfort / Olympia Fields CC) joined McGuire and Guin in the Semifinals and the tandems each played the opening six holes at even par. McGuire and Guin’s first lead of the match, by way of a birdie at the par-4 seventh, was quickly matched by a Wright/Finnin birdie at No. 9 to send the match inward the same way it began. McGuire and Guin carded what amounted to being the match-clinching birdie at the par-4 14th. A birdie and three pars to close earned the medalists their 1-up victory.
Przybylski/Seelinger and McGuire/Guin are now set to compete for a chance to hoist the final trophy of the 2024 CDGA Championship season on Thursday at Ivanhoe. The title tilt is scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m.

Medalists
George McGuire (Green Oaks / Ivanhoe Club) and

Danny Brown (Gurnee / Prairie Isle GC) and
Rich Smales (Lake Bluff / Pine Meadow GC). McGuire and Guin built a 3-up advantage through eight holes, but Brown and Smales battled back to tie the match by winning Nos. 9-11. The top seeds bounced back, however, claiming Nos. 13 and 14 with birdies before closing out the match on the par-4 finisher.
Also among those to make the Quarterfinals are defending champions

HOME-CLUB HOPEFULS MCGUIRE & GUIN EARN MEDALIST HONORS IN 9TH CDGA SENIOR AMATEUR FOUR-BALL AT IVANHOE
MUNDELEIN, Ill. - On a picture-perfect day in northwest suburban Mundelein, the tandem of
George McGuire (Green Oaks / Ivanhoe Club) and
Joseph Guin (Hawthorn Woods / Ivanhoe Club) utilized their home-club knowledge en route to medalist honors in the 9th CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Ivanhoe Club. McGuire and Guin fired a bogey-free 7-under 65 in Monday’s stroke-play qualifying round to earn the No. 1 seed for match play, which begins Tuesday Morning.
The medalists birdied the par-4 second to get their round jump-started and followed that up with another birdie 3 on the par-4 eighth. They then rattled off three straight birdies on Nos. 10 through 12 to get to 5 under. The onslaught continued with red figures on the par-5 fifteenth and par-3 seventeenth to finish at 7-under 65. McGuire and Guin sat three shots clear of
Jim Mounce (El Paso / El Paso GC) and
Daniel Freed (Lexington / Crestwicke), who earned the No. 2 seed by day’s end after a 4-under 68.

Defending champions Glenn Przybylski (Frankfort / Sanctuary GC) and Greg Seelinger (Downers Grove / Village Links of Glen Ellyn), who triumphed at Elgin Country Club last fall, earned the No. 6 seed with a 2-under 70. The pair, who both finished in the top 15 in the Illinois State Senior Amateur Championship earlier this month, notched four birdies to two bogeys to begin their title defense. Additionally, another Ivanhoe-based team, Bob Schachner (Libertyville / Ivanhoe Club) and David Passaglia (Kildeer / Ivanhoe Club), earned the No. 7 seed following a 2-under 70 of their own. The pair have advanced to match play each of the last three years, including a Semifinals run in 2022.
Five-time event champions Tim Sheppard (East Peoria / Pekin CC) and Tom Kearfott (El Paso / El Paso GC) failed to advance from stroke play qualifying for the first time as a duo. The two carded five birdies, three bogeys and a triple bogey to miss the cut by one shot.
Overall, 20 teams finished the day at even par or better, with a 6-for-2 playoff determining the final two match play spots.
The Round of 16 matches will commence at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, with the Quarterfinal and Semifinal matches slated for Wednesday. The championship clash will then be contested on Thursday morning.

Championship Information
New to the CDGA championship slate in 2016, the CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship is a team match play event for those over the age of 55. Two-person teams begin the Championship with 18 holes of stroke play on the Monday of the event before the low 16 teams are seeded into a match play bracket. Both team members play their own ball throughout, with the lowest score on each hole counting. The duo of Glenn Przybylski and Greg Seelinger won the Championship in 2023 at Elgin Country Club.
