Day One: Monday, October 5

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW FOLLOWING DAY ONE OF THE 11TH CDGA SENIOR AMATEUR FOUR-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP

CHICAGO– The final week of the 113th season of CDGA-administered championships got underway Monday with a number of events taking place across the District, including the 11th CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship at the historic Ridgemoor Country Club. The beautiful fall day featured 46 of the area’s top tandems age 55 and older competing across 18 holes for spots in the 16-team match play bracket. Aurora Country Club members Jeff Heimerdinger (Elburn) and Rodney Bell (Naperville) carded a best-ball 66, which included eight birdies between the two of them, to earn medalist honors and the top seed ahead of Tuesday’s Round of 16. See below for five key items to know following the opening round:

The Quest for a Four-Peat
Back-to-back-to-back champions Glenn Przybylski (Frankfort / Sanctuary GC) and Greg Seelinger (Downers Grove / Cantigny Golf) punched their ticket to the Round of 16 by posting a 2-under 70, earning the duo the No. 12 seed. Monday’s opener wasn’t as straightforward of a display as many are used to seeing from the Przybylski/Seelinger side, as it found itself 1 over at the turn. A birdie-birdie start on the inward nine, with another on the par-3 18th for good measure, closed out the two’s first round with positive momentum. Another successful title defense would make Przybylski and Seelinger the first to win four-straight in event history.

Medalists Seek Deeper Run
The aforementioned event medalists, Heimerdinger and Bell, aren’t new to the match-play rounds in the CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship. The two first earned a spot in the 16-team bracket back in 2020 before reaching the Quarterfinals in both 2023 and 2025. This year, 1-seeded Heimerdinger/Bell will begin its title quest against No. 16 seed and 2025 semifinalists Jeff Ott (Dunlap / Coyote Creek GC) and Curt Minkel (Pekin / Coyote Creek GC), who carded a 1-under 71 on Monday.

Home-Club Hopefuls Off to Impressive Start
Stan Kapka (Mt. Prospect / Ridgemoor CC) and Greg Brehm (Park Ridge / Ridgemoor CC) will look to defend their home turf this week, as the members of the Chicago-based track earned the event’s No. 2 seed following a 4-under 68 on Monday. After ham-and-egging the outward nine and posting just one birdie between the two, Kapka and Brehm found their groove on the back. Both under par on their own accord, they combined for six birdies to finish two shots behind Heimerdinger and Bell. The two will play 2024 runner-up Joe Guin (Lake Forest / Ivanhoe Club) and his partner Tim Callard (Lake Zurich / Ivanhoe Club) on Tuesday morning.

A Test Fit for the Best
A classic Langford/Moreau design, Ridgemoor Country Club held its own in Monday’s stroke-play qualifying, playing to a 78.79 average. The par-5 second hole was the easiest on the day at a 5.18 average, while the par-4 seventh was the most difficult at 4.68. The day featured 135 holes under par, including three eagles.

Looking Ahead
The Round of 16 matches are set to commence on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. Wednesday will feature both the Quarterfinals in the morning and Semifinals thereafter, while the title tilt will be contested on Thursday, also beginning at 8 a.m.

Championship Information

New to the CDGA championship slate in 2016, the CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship is a team match play event for those over the age of 55. Two-person teams begin the Championship with 18 holes of stroke play on the Monday of the event, before the low 16 teams are seeded into a match play bracket. Both team members play their own ball throughout, with the lowest score on each hole counting. The duo of Glenn Przybylski and Greg Seelinger won their third-consecutive Championship in 2025 at Olympia Fields Country Club.
