FINNIN AND WERNER TEAM UP FOR CDGA SENIOR FOUR-BALL VICTORY
ITASCA, Ill. - The CDGA championship calendar began in May with Terry Werner (Dyer, Ind. / Briar Ridge CC) and John Finnin (Mokena / Olympia Fields CC) battling in the final match of the CDGA Senior Amateur. It ended at the 2nd CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship with Finnin and Werner teaming up to win the championship at Itasca Country Club, besting Dirk Anderson (Libertyville / Merit Club) and Steven Jacobs (Highland Park / Pine Meadow GC), 6 and 4.

“We talked about it after the CDGA Senior at Ridge to join up and play this tournament at the end of the year,” Finnin said about the duo coming together. “When one of us was out of the hole or was making a bogey, the other was making birdie or par."

Day 3: Wednesday, Oct. 4

FORMER CDGA SENIOR CHAMPS AMONGST FINALISTS AT SENIOR FOUR-BALL
ITASCA, Ill. -- The last team to advance to match play kept the train going on Wednesday, as Dirk Anderson and Steven Jacobs advanced to the finals of the 2nd CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Itasca Country Club. Anderson and Jacobs first defeated Jim Cesak and Jim Kennedy in the quarterfinals, 2 up, then bested Lee Kolquist and Van Salmans 5 and 4 in the semifinals.

In the bottom half of the bracket, second-seeded John Finnin and Terry Werner dispatched their challengers quickly, as the CDGA Senior Am final combatants overwhelmed their competitors. In the quarterfinals, they topped Gary Freund and Mark Hannon 7 and 6 and returned in the afternoon to defeat Anthony Cascino and Tom DeStefani 4 and 3 in the semifinals.

Anderson, a former CDGA Senior Amateur champion, and Jacobs will meet Werner, this year’s CDGA Senior Amateur champ, and Finnin in the championship match at 8 a.m. Thursday morning at Itasca Country Club.

Day 2: Tuesday, Oct. 3

MEDALISTS FALL IN OPENING ROUND
ITASCA, Ill. -- The medalist pairing of Ed Fischer and Tommy Robinson fell in the opening round of the 2nd CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship, dropping a 6-and-5 affair to Dirk Anderson and Steven Jacobs at Itasca Country Club. The lower seeds reigned in three of the four matches in the top half of the bracket.

In the bottom half of the bracket, the second-seeded duo of John Finnin and Terry Werner, combatants in the CDGA Senior Amateur championship match earlier this year, joined forces for a 3-and-2 victory over Gavin Green and Phillip Kenny.

Seven of the eight first round matches were completed on Tuesday, with the exception being the 6/11 matchup between Vance Antoniou and Mark Esposito and Wayne Moore and Dan Steinman. That match completed 18 holes all square shortly after sunset and was suspended due to darkness. The final quarterfinal slot will be determined when that match resumes Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m.

The quarterfinal matches of the 2nd CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship will tee off at 8 a.m. at Itasca, with the semifinal matches to follow in the afternoon.

MATCH PLAY SET AFTER OPENING 18
ITASCA, Ill. The duo of Ed Fischer (Libertyville / Old Elm Club) and Tommy Robinson (Grayslake / Deerfield GC) earned medalist honors, as 16 teams advanced to match play in the 2nd CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship Monday at Itasca Country Club.

Fischer and Robinson carded a 5-under 67, shaking off a bogey on the first hole with seven birdies and one bogey the rest of the way. They finished one shot clear of John Finnin (Mokena / Olympia Fields CC) and Terry Werner (Dyer, Ind. / Briar Ridge CC) who, after squaring off the in the CDGA Senior Amateur Championship final match in May, joined forces to earn the No. 2 seed with a 4-under 68 at Itasca.

The defending champion duo of Tom Kerfott and Tim Sheppard is not participating in the event, while the 2016 runner-up team of Kip Blakesley (Germantown Hills / Pekin CC) and Tim Saurs (Pekin / Pekin CC) failed to qualify for match play after carding a 77 on Monday.

The first round of matches will take place Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday will feature the quarterfinals and semifinals, while the title tilt will take place Thursday.

CDGA CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON CONCLUDES WITH SENIOR FOUR-BALL
LEMONT, Ill. - The 2017 CDGA championship slate culminates Oct. 2-5 at Itasca Country Club, as 41 duos age 55-and-up will compete in the 2nd CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship.

The championship begins with an 18-hole stroke play round on Monday, Oct. 2, with the low 16 teams advancing to a match play bracket. Match play begins with the first round Tuesday afternoon, setting the stage for the quarterfinals and semifinals on Wednesday. The winning pair will be crowned after Thursday morning’s 18-hole championship match.

Championship Information

New to the CDGA championship slate in 2016, the CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship is a team match play event for those over the age of 55. Two-person teams begin the Championship with 18 holes of stroke play on the Monday of the event before the low 16 teams are seeded into a match play bracket. Both team members play their own ball throughout, with the lowest score on each hole counting. The duo of Tim Sheppard and Tom Kearfott won the inaugural event last year at Crystal Tree Golf & Country Club. (2016 Recap)
