CDGA TO CONDUCT INAUGURAL CHICAGO ADAPTIVE OPEN
Monday, March 4, 2024 - LEMONT, Ill. – In conjunction with its mission to create opportunities for everyone to experience the benefits of golf, the CDGA will conduct the inaugural Chicago Adaptive Open, June 29-30 at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club’s Course No. 3 in Lemont. The world's best golfers with physical and intellectual disabilities will vie for a purse of $15,000 over 36 holes of competition. Registration is now open at CDGA.org/AdaptiveOpen and will run through May 31. “As we celebrate the 110th year of our Association, the 80th year of our Foundation and the 25th year of our Sunshine Programs, we are eager to expand the scope of our programming to competitive adaptive golfers,” said CDGA Executive Director Robert Markionni. “We are proud to welcome the growing adaptive golf community and look forward to watching them become Better Through Golf by competing at Cog Hill.” Players will compete across 15 different Sports Classifications based on their impairment category, including lower limb impairments, arm impairments, visual impairments, short in stature and intellectual disabilities. Each Sports Classification will receive $1,000 of the $15,000 purse, with $500 going to first place, $300 going to second place and $200 going to third place. Purse funds will be reallocated if every Sports Classification is not represented. World Ranking for Golfers with Disability (WR4GD) and United States Adaptive Golf Alliance (USAGA) points will be awarded based on each competitor’s performance. Opportunities for adaptive golfers have increased in recent years, exemplified by the advent of the USGA’s U.S. Adaptive Open in 2022 and the creation of numerous regional events by other Allied Golf Associations and adaptive golf organizations. The 3rd U.S. Adaptive Open will take place a little more than one week following the Chicago Adaptive Open, July 8-10 at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas. The USAGA, headquartered just outside of Chicago, is one of the world’s foremost leaders in adaptive golf. The CDGA is a partner with and member of the USAGA and will utilize the organization as a helpful resource in administering the event.
