Rules of Golf

The United States Golf Association (USGA), in conjunction with The R&A in St. Andrews, Scotland, writes, interprets and maintains the Rules of Golf to guard the tradition and integrity of the game. Beginning on Jan. 1, 2023, the USGA and R&A’s new Rules of Golf went into effect. Both organizations serve as the authors and owners of The Rules of Golf and Decisions on the Rules of Golf.

The USGA encourages all golfers to download the Rules of Golf App, which includes full text of all publications. Available for iOS and Android.

Publications

The Rules of Golf: A full version covering all of the playing Rules.

The Official Guide to the Rules of Golf: Replaces Decisions book and provides long-form guidance to assist with officiating and administration.

Rules of Golf Education

The following educational material covers key topics on the Rules of Golf that youth golfers need to be aware of. Coaches are encouraged to use these materials as educational resources. The material presented is visual, auditory and written. Having a basic understand of the following topics is key to having a successful golf experience.
