FISHER, BEAUBIEN, JR. RIDE POSITIVE MINDSETS TO CDGA AM FINALS

Wednesday, June 28, 2023 - GLENCOE, Ill - Previous CDGA Amateur appearances for Danny Fisher (Lake Forest / Lake Bluff GC) and Robert Beaubien, Jr. (Barrington / Biltmore CC) have ended in disappointment. Fisher fell in the Quarterfinals as the No. 1 seed last year, while Beaubien, Jr. didn't make match play in his only attempt back in 2021.

The difference this year, where both advanced to the Championship Match following two victories on Wednesday at Lake Shore Country Club?

Fun.

"[Golf] is not a perfect game," Fisher, who will be entering his fifth season at Miami Universty-Ohio in the fall, said. "I'm keeping my expectations pretty low and having fun with it. Trying to pull off some fun shots."

"A lot has changed since the last time I played in this tournament," said Beaubien, Jr., also a rising fifth-year senior, but at Illinois Wesleyan. "I've gotten a little more experience and learned a little more how to enjoy golf rather than just getting upset about it. You just have to go out there and have fun with it. That's what I've been trying to do all week."

Fisher tallied two 4-and-3 triumphs to earn his spot in Thursday's title tilt. He was tied with T.J. Barger (Bloomington / Bloomington CC) through eight holes in the Quarterfinals before notching four birdies on the back nine en route to victory. In the afternoon Semifinals against Michael Cascino (Palos Park / Olympia Fields CC), Fisher continued the hot streak by amassing a 5-up advantage through 10 holes before closing it out with a par on No. 15.

"Just staying patient and knowing that par is a good score, especially with these firm and fast greens," Fisher cited as an integral part of his success thus far.

Beaubien, Jr. utilized fast starts in his two wins, as he trailed for only one hole all day. In the morning, he held off Tyler Isenhart (Geneva / Black Sheep GC) for a 1-up victory, finishing the match with pars on the final five holes. Three birdies in the first four holes against Colin Izzo (Chicago / Beverly CC) in the Semifinals provided Beaubien, Jr. with a lead he would not relinquish, eventually triumphing 3 up.

"I got off to a pretty good start in both rounds," Beaubien, Jr. said. "That's what really got me going."

Fisher and Beaubien, Jr. are familiar with one another, as both are the same age (22) and have crossed paths numerous times in junior golf and high school. This will make for an enjoyable 36-hole Championship Match that both expect to be – you guessed it – fun.

"Bobby is great," Fisher said. "I'm sure we'll have a fun day."

"I'm looking forward to playing [Danny] and spending the day with him," Beaubien, Jr. said. "It's more about having fun and let the golf ball do the work."

The Championship Match will commence at 8 a.m. Thursday morning at Lake Shore Country Club.
