2023 CDGA COMPETITIONS SCHEDULES RELEASED; NEARLY 90 EVENTS ON TAP | |
Wednesday, December 7, 2022 - LEMONT, Ill. - Following a year of record participation by golfers of all skill levels and genders, the CDGA will conduct a robust slate of competitions from April-October in 2023. As showcased in the revealing of the 2023 CDGA Championship and Social Competitions schedules Wednesday morning, the CDGA will conduct 89 events in 2023, including championships and qualifiers - 58 on the Championships slate and 31 on the Social Competitions calendar. In 2022, more than 2,700 individuals participated in at least one CDGA competition. This group of men and women ranged in age from 15-82 and Handicap Index® from +5.4-36.0, evidence of the slate`s broad appeal. "Since our founding in 1914, administering first-class competitions has been at our core," said CDGA Executive Director Robert Markionni. "In recent years, we have built upon that rich history to create an array of events that appeal in some way to each one of our 94,000-plus members." The CDGA`s two oldest and most prestigious events are the focal point of the Championship schedule. Bloomington Country Club will host the Illinois State Amateur Championship for a record ninth time, as the 92nd iteration of the state`s top amateur event will visit central Illinois July 18-20. Glencoe`s Lake Shore Country Club will be the proving ground for the grueling 103rd CDGA Amateur Championship from June 26-29. "Historic events deserve historic venues, and we feel the 2023 sites deliver in that regard," said Colin Wadelin, CDGA Director of Rules & Competitions. "With nearly 250 years of tradition combined, Bloomington and Lake Shore will foster memorable Championships." The rest of the schedule consists of six additional Championships - two specific for mid-amateurs (25 and up), two for seniors (55 and up) and two for teams - as well as 21 CDGA-conducted USGA qualifiers and the 61st Radix Cup Matches. While every Championship participant must have a Handicap Index® of 10.4 or below, the CDGA Social Competition slate`s casually competitive environment welcomes players of all abilities. With four-person team, two-person team and individual net playing opportunities available amongst the nine different Social Competitions realms, there is sure to be an event suitable for every player. "We know that a very small percentage of our members are able to compete in a gross championship, so CDGA Social Competitions are designed to allow everyone to enjoy the thrill of teeing it up with something on the line," said CDGA Senior Business Development Director Mike Gilligan. "While these events are about fun first and foremost, amazing prizes are still up for grabs, including stay and play trips to the likes of Sand Valley, Tullymore and French Lick." The first date on the Championship slate is April 24, which will feature a CDGA Mid-Amateur qualifier at Maple Meadows Golf Club and a U.S. Open Local Qualifier at Cantigny Golf. The Social Competitions schedule will begin with a CDGA KemperSports Two-Person Scramble Championship qualifier on May 2 at The Glen Club. Registration for all events on the Championship schedule will open on Tuesday, Jan. 17. The 2023 CDGA Social Competitions slate will open registration on Monday, Feb. 6.
